چکیده

When several Bluetooth networks interconnect through a number of bridge nodes, they form a scatternet. However, no routing protocol has yet been defined for Bluetooth scatternets. Meanwhile, because of its small size and low cost, Bluetooth is widely “pervasive”, in the sense that even low cost electrical appliances will be expected to become Bluetooth enabled. If so, scatternets consisting of several piconets will exist even in a home environment. Thus, there is a pressing need to develop an efficient ad hoc routing algorithm to make effective communication possible between distant devices. This study proposes an integrated ad hoc routing and time-slot scheduling (IARTSS) scheme to address the problem of ad hoc routing in Bluetooth networks. Our proposed scheme contains four main mechanisms to address the different facets of the problem, namely Compensation-Based Time-Slot Assignment (CTSA), Traffic Differentiation Queueing (TDQ), Adaptive Master-Slave Switching (AMSS), and an Enhanced AODV algorithm for ad hoc routing. We have built a comprehensive Bluetooth simulator and performed extensive simulations to evaluate the proposed IARTSS. We find that our proposed scheme can perform well under a wide variety of practical circumstances, and provides efficient and high performance intrapiconet and inter-piconet communications.

A zone routing protocol for Bluetooth scatternets

Bluetooth is a low-cost, low-power technology initially intended as a replacement of cables between electronic devices. Bluetooth devices can form small network of upto 8 devices called piconets. The specification also defines networks of piconets called scatternets. Scatternets can have various uses such as for “monitoring” purposes in factories and warehouses or for ad hoc meetings. Scatterne...

New Dynamic Routing and Adaptive Scheduling Schemes for Bluetooth Ring Scatternets

This paper presents a new ring topology for Bluetooth scatternets, ring of masters (ROM), and shows how this structure and its formation considerations contribute to the simplicity of routing and robustness of the scatternet. The scheduling scheme, ROM adaptive scheduling (RAS), dynamically allocates time slots at the intraand inter-piconet levels through a set of indicators that monitor node a...

Polling and Bridge Scheduling Algorithms in Bluetooth

This report presents a brief overview and classification of intra-piconet polling schemes for Bluetooth piconets. It also presents a similar overview and classification of bridge scheduling algorithms for Bluetooth scatternets. Some additional issues, in particular the transmission of TCP/IP traffic over Bluetooth, and segmentation and reassembly policies, are discussed as well.

Accelerating Bluetooth inquiry for personal area networks

The recent industry standard Bluetooth promises low cost replacement of communication cabling with moderate symbol-rate, short-range wireless links. The same specification also addresses the establishment of point-to-multipoint piconets and the interconnection of several of these piconets into scatternets, enabling Bluetooth to be used as a technology for realizing personal area networks. Estab...
